The pilgrimage route to Kedarnath Dham has been temporarily suspended following damage caused by falling debris and rocks near Jangalchatti. According to an official update from Rudraprayag Police, the trekking path from Sonprayag to Kedarnath has been closed until further orders.

⚠️ Route Severely Damaged by Landslide

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Rudraprayag Police wrote:

"The path leading to Kedarnath Dham was damaged due to debris and stones falling in the ravine near Jangalchatti. The path from Sonprayag to Kedarnath Dham has been suspended till further orders."

Heavy rainfall in the region triggered a landslide, sending large rocks and debris cascading into the ravine and damaging a key stretch of the footpath used by thousands of pilgrims during the yatra season.

🚫 Pilgrimage Suspended, Safety Measures in Place

Authorities have assured that all necessary safety protocols are being enforced. Security personnel have been deployed to assist devotees already en route to Kedarnath before the route was closed. Emergency teams are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating efforts to prevent further incidents.

"Effective security is being ensured for the devotees travelling on the footpath, including those who had left for Kedarnath Dham before the road was damaged," the police added.

⚠️ Region Prone to Landslides During Monsoon

Kedarnath, one of the most revered shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, sees a heavy influx of devotees during the annual Char Dham Yatra. The area is known for its susceptibility to landslides, particularly during the monsoon and pre-monsoon months, prompting repeated advisories urging pilgrims to exercise caution.

Authorities have not given a timeline for when the route will be reopened. Pilgrims are advised to stay updated through official channels and avoid travel until further notice.
